Now a little bit about us.

 RAY

Hello.  My name is Ray Stock, aka Razor,  and I’ve been involved in fantasy hockey since 1995 when I drafted my first fantasy hockey team.  No, I'm not related to PJ Stock.  At least not that I know of.  From the very start I was hooked on fantasy hockey.  I was, and still am, a die-hard Ranger fan, so when asked to join the guys at work in their hockey pool, I said, “sure why not, it should be a lot of fun”.  Who knew that I would become addicted?  Finishing in fourth place in my very first year didn’t seem to be a bad start.  Just like most young talented NHL players (believe me I am not comparing myself physically or as talented as they are), I broke out in the fourth year and won my first title.  I won my second title the following year, the last time one owner won back-to-back titles in our fantasy league.

Steve (who is one of my partners) and I had been talking about partnering up for years and always dreamt of how good we would be as a team.  So, we joined forces and won the title in our first year together in 2007.  We finished 2nd the following year, losing by a measly 6 points before deciding to split up the partnership and go back on our own

To show just how obsessed I was with fantasy hockey, not even the lockout season could hold me back.  I created an AHL fantasy league the year of the 2004 lockout where I finished first and learned a great deal about the up-and-comers of the time; Spezza, Boyes, Bryzgalov, Laich etc.  It seems so long ago now.

A few years ago I joined a Canadian-based fantasy league by answering a forum notice.  This was a chance to see how I would fare against a group who I have had no prior knowledge of.  After an inconsistent first year, I finished in 2nd place in my second year and went into the playoffs and won the championship.  I finished 3rd the next season before getting knocked out in a tough playoff battle, losing by less than one goal’s point value.  In my third year I finished in 3rd place and this past season I ended up in 7th.  I'll be back next season as I will use the 2012-2013 lockout shortened season as an excuse.  LOL.

Let me give you a little background of myself outside of fantasy hockey.  I grew up, and have lived in Queens, New York my entire life.  I earned a business degree in statistical analysis from City University.  I am married and have 4 children and been involved at one time or another in coaching baseball, basketball, soccer, ice and roller hockey, and softball.  I am also a volunteer for the American Cancer Society.  You can check out my team "Rays of Light" on their website.  I consider myself one of the luckiest men alive because I am a lung cancer survivor for 8 years now.  You can probably catch me around Times Square during lunchtime on weekdays.

STEVE

Welcome, my hockey-loving friends! My name is Steve.I don’t know where the time has gone, but it was 18 years ago when I started up a fantasy hockey league.  I honestly believed that I had a tremendous advantage over the other members, since the other guys knew little else about hockey other than being die-hard New York Ranger fans. Unlike them, my passion for hockey had its inaugural roots in 3 “Original Six” cities- Detroit (my birthplace), Toronto (“my home away from home”), and New York (my primary residence for 33 yrs). Therefore, I never truly developed a favorite team- just a love for the sport that stretched across the board. As I constantly visited family and friends in Toronto and became exposed to the Canadian “hockey is life” mentality, I became hooked!  I would practically spend all my leisure time consuming massive amounts of hockey stats and information in order to keep up with my Canadian buddies. By the time Doug Gilmour was a hockey god in Toronto during the early 1990s, I definitely knew my pucks!

Thanks to my friends and family in Toronto, I knew of fantasy hockey even though it was relatively non-existent in New York City.  Regardless, I decided to start up my own fantasy league with 7 of my closest friends. I have enjoyed success from the onset, winning 3 titles in the first four years.  Later on, I teamed up with two different partners, on two separate occasions, who I was able to help bring home their one and only title.  Another highlight of my fantasy career was recently partnering with “our hockey guru” Ray- and walking away with the hardware the first year and finishing a close second the following. Also, having experienced fantasy hockey for such a long time, I definitely needed a different challenge. Subsequently, I joined a 10-team keeper dynasty league prior to the 2011 season, where I did manage to hold on for a tightly contested victory.

MIKE

Hello everyone!  My name is Mike, known to my hockey friends as Romie or Romer.  Fifteen years ago Ray asked me to participate in his fantasy hockey pool.  It was immediate and total addiction, and it remains so to this day. I love hockey and I love fantasy hockey.  Like Ray and Steve I have spent all these years watching, analyzing, drafting, and trading NHL players. While I have not had the success of Steve and Ray (although I did win the pool this year), they will tell you that I always drafted smartly because I am well prepared, therefore my teams are always competitive.  Over the years I have developed an ability to pick up-and-comers before the rest of the league has spotted them.  Players such as Pavel Dimitra, Marcus Naslund, Todd Bertuzzi, Martin St. Louis, Pekka Rinne and many more.  All selected before the rest of the league caught on to their abilities.  I hope to be able to do the same for you in the future.

In my regular life I have worked in the investment management business for 25 years.  I have an MBA in finance and have spent a career analyzing companies and the value of their stocks.  I believe this experience translates into analyzing players for fantasy hockey.   I am married and have two sons.
