TOREY KRUG-D-BOSTON

The rookie defenseman scored a goal and an assist, now giving him three points in two playoff games against the New York Rangers. He becomes the first rookie blueliner since 1988 to score goals in his first two playoff games. With several of the Boston defensive regulars sidelined due to injury, Krog and rising phenom Dougie Hamilton have played more prominent offensive roles so far in Games 1 and 2.

***IN THE SLOT***  OUR PRIMETIME PLAYERS OF THE NIGHT

HENRIK ZETTERBERG  C DETROIT

The Red Wings came out with a lot more energy in yesterday's game than they did in game one, so it looks like they intend to make this a real series.  The Detroit player with the most energy was Henrik Zetterberg who had two beautiful assists and 4 shots on goal.  Zetterberg led all Detroit forwards in ice time with 19:38 minutes yesterday.  He had 48 points in 46 games this past season, and he remains a premiere fantasy forward.

***IN THE SLOT*** OUR PRIMETIME PLAYERS OF THE NIGHT

Number 1.  Sidney Crosby C Pittsburgh

In case you have been living on a different planet for the last couple of years, the best hockey player on this planet is a guy named Sidney Crosby.  Crosby was all over the ice last night with a hat trick and 6 shots on goal, as he led the Penguins to a 2-0 lead over Ottawa.  Crosby had 56 points in 36 games this past season, and if it weren't for a freak accident that broke his jaw, he would have easily won the NHL scoring title.  If you get the number one pick in your draft this fall, you have to pick Crosby.

BRAD MARCHAND-LW-BOSTON BRUINS

It was what everyone had been expecting from these two rivals who were meeting in the playoffs for the first time since 1973.  These two teams battled into overtime where Brad Marchand scored on a great pass from Patrice Bergeron to take Game 1 of a series that should see a lot of thrills, skills and spills.  It was Marchand’s first goal of these playoffs and what a time for it.  He also added an assist on Torey Krug’s power play goal that tied the game.  It was Krug’s first NHL goal in his first NHL playoff game, but it was Marchand who seems to have awakened in the first game against the Rangers.  If he indeed has broken out, this could spell bad news for the Rangers.

PATRICK SHARP-C-CHICAGO

With one goal and two assists, Sharp led the Chicago offense that blew open a tight game in the 3rd period in the 4-1 Game 1 win over Detroit. Thats nine points in the last five playoff contests for the surging winger, who only played in 28 regular season games due to a shoulder injury. Sharp will be a huge fantasy value pick in 2013/14, given that when healthy, he is a lock for 35 goals and 70+ points.

HENRIK LUNDQVIST-G-NEW YORK RANGERS

It all comes down to tonight for the New York Rangers.  Game 7 against the Capitals in Washington, and I’m sure it won’t be anything less than what we have seen so far in this series.  If the Rangers hope to advance, they will need another spectacular performance by the “King” himself like he gave the Blueshirts late Mother’s Day afternoon at the Garden.  It was the fifth one-goal game of the series with each home team winning their home games.  Will Game 7 be different?  The difference-maker has to be Lundqvist who turned aside all 27 shots on goal in yesterday’s contest. The King has given the team a chance in every game so far in this series, even in Game 1’s 3-1 loss.  With a 1.92 GAA and a .937 SP, the Rangers have more than a fighting chance to upset the home team Caps and advance.
