ADDEM: FEW TO CONSIDER

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: I THINK, THEREFORE... NOVEMBER 20, 2016

Posted by ray on Sun, 2016-11-20 14:12

SMC 11/20/2016 I THINK, THEREFORE...

I think it’s safe to say that Tampa’s Andrej Vasilevskiy’s play of late warrants more starts.  He’s only allowed 1 goal in the past three games.

It’s also safe to say that the Columbus Blue Jackets are indeed for real this year after playing the New York Rangers tight and coming away with a well-deserved 4-2 victory the other night.

ADDEM: STAAL ALERT

Posted by steve on Mon, 2016-11-14 09:49

Hey folks. I am away on vacation, but there are a few names to mull over in the waiver wire. The veteran crop available is pretty substantial, but with the window basically closed to pick up Marian Hossa, set your sights on Eric Staal. The center's scoring numbers been regressing at an alarming rate over the last few years, but seems to have found a new home in Minnesota. Coach Boudreau is giving him minutes in all situations and Staal has responded with almost a point per game clip over 15 games.

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: IT'S JACKET SEASON NOVEMBER 13, 2016

Posted by ray on Sun, 2016-11-13 09:50

SMC 11/13/16 IT’S JACKET SEASON!

It’s the resurrection of Nick Foligno and the Columbus Blue Jackets as they scored 8 or more goals for the second time this month, beating the St. Louis Blues 8-4 with 7 unanswered goals.  7 different goal-scorers for the Jackets.

Price blanked the Red Wings.  No surprise now, is there?

Whenever I look at a Montreal box score I see Paul Byron’s name pop up.  I can’t help but think his name is Paul Bunyon by the way he’s been playing this season.  BIG.

ADDEM: YOUNG GUNS ON DISPLAY

Posted by steve on Mon, 2016-11-07 06:48

There are a few attractive fantasy options in Columbus, but the one I would consider first is Nick Foligno. The winger is off to a hot start with 12 points in 10 games, looking primed to rebound from a mediocre 37-point '15-16 season. Don't forget he had 73 points just two years ago so the upside is there.... 2nd year Winnipeg winger Nikolaj Ehlers had a breakout game Saturday, collecting 4 points-1G/3A- against the Red Wings.

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: SOME CHANGE IS GOOD! NOVEMBER 6, 2016

SMC 11-6-2016  SOME CHANGE IS GOOD!

This could be the time to pick up Carl Hagelin of the Pittsburgh Penguins as he had 3 assists last night 2 of those on Crosby goals.  He may not get much PP time, if any, but he can skate and with Sid the Kid feeding him, can anyone spell B-R-E-A-K-O-U-T?

Al Montoya smacked up for 10 goals the other night.  YEEESH!

ADDEM:VESEY FOR REAL?

Posted by steve on Sun, 2016-10-30 20:18

Center Victor Rask leads our list as he is currently sporting a 8-game point streak (4G/4A). The 23 year old is putting it all together in Year 3, following his 21G/48 point sophomore season. Will it continue? Skinner and Rask should lead the Carolina scoring charge until their young guns, Aho and Teravainen, are ready to take the next step.. Jimmy Vesey is enjoying a strong rookie start with 4 goals and one assist in eight games.

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: THE NEW ERA HAS BEGUN! OCTOBER 30, 2016

Posted by ray on Sun, 2016-10-30 13:05

SMC 10-30-2016 THE NEW ERA HAS BEGUN!

4 shutouts yesterday in the NHL with Devan Dubnyk getting his third one in a row. Wild, isn’t it?

If you were to tell me that the Edmonton Oilers would be this good, this early in the season, I would’ve said you were crazy.  I mean first place and 7-1-0?

I mean Cam Talbot is already surpassing any and all expectations that fantasy poolers had in him.

But low on any Dallas Stars players as they are hit with the injury bug but you know they will score in bunches when everyone is back in the lineup.

ADDEM: FOWLER RELEVANT...AGAIN

Posted by steve on Mon, 2016-10-24 08:55

Another young King on the rise has been a scorching of late Tanner Pearson, who has collected 4 goals and 1 assist since returning from a two-game suspension.  The departure of LW Milan Lucic has helped create more opportunity for the youngster to take another offensive step. He is currently skating on the 2nd power-play unit, but playing with Jeff Carter at even strength helps...Victor Rask has been the top center for Carolina, collecting 6 points over 5 games and largely not owned in most fantasy leagues. Ditto for Lee Stempniak who has clicked on a unit with Rask and Jeff Skinner.

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: SURPRISE! SURPRISE! OCTOBER 23, 2016

SMC 10-23-2016

I think that we should just award the Hart Trophy to Carey Price right now.  You can see how much he means to this team.

After just two weeks, the NHL Standings are rounding into shape just the way pretty much everyone thought they would look like except that Edmonton is off to a 4-1-0 start.

Oh and Vancouver at 4-0-1 is another one that has me scratching my head.  Aren’t they supposed to be just a so-so team this season?

ADD'EM:ROOKIE LEAFS ON THE RISE

Posted by steve on Sun, 2016-10-16 18:20
All the talk from Toronto has surrounded no.1 overall pick Auston Matthew's awe inspiring four-goal rookie debut, but fantasy owners should also take chances on teammates William Nylander and Mitch Marner. Both figure to be available in most leagues while Austin is long gone. Nylander played extended minutes during the second half of last season and now has exhbited sublime chemistry with Matthews on the third line. If these two keep peaking, their third line label will no doubt change.

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: THE WOW FACTOR! OCTOBER 16, 2016

SMC 10/16/2016

WOW!  That’s all I think I need to say about Auston Matthews.

WOW! 2: McDavid with 6 points in 2 games

Is this the year the Oil start to show that they are NHL –worthy?

WOW! 3: Brad Marchand with a 5-point night.

I know we are just 4 days into the season but there have been some odd phenomena happening around the league.

Richard Panik with a hat trick?  Huh!  Panik at the disco...He just may be a decent sleeper pick for another week if he continues.

NHL IN 30/2016: PART 6 (STL, TOR, VAN, WAS, WPG)

St. Louis: The emergence of d-man Colton Parayko gives the blue line much needed top-heavy depth but the question remains whether Jake Allen can carry the sole burden of manning the crease with Brian Elliott now in Calgary. The balanced offensive attack should continue to provide enough firepower, but it should be time for Vladimir Tarasenko to enter elite territory as a sniping forward. What will the Nail Yakupov addition do for the team? If he can finally fulfill his potential, look out. Playoffs: Another deep run
