BTP: THE TIMES THEY ARE A-CHANGIN

Last week we looked at a few teams that needed to have a plan in place because of their different goaltending situations.  This week we will take a look at what young, talented goaltenders are already getting their foot in the door a little deeper with each solid performance by them and a few poor starts from the incumbents.

Give it your best shot by going with the best of the best...Dallas heads into Carolina to take on the Hurricanes whoi are going with Eddie Lack in this one.LAck was better in his last start winning 3-2 in OT but his metrics are still iffy.  Jamie BEnn and Tyler SEguin are must starts in any fantasy format, and throw in Jason Spezza for good measure....Chicago is clearly the better team as they head into New Jersey.  Teuvo teravainen and Artem Anisimov are good value plays in this one....Detroit and Toronto should provide some good drama.  Detroit's Gustav Nyquist has been chipping in lately

My strategy lies with riding with players looking to bust out such as Giroux and Voracek in Calgary. The Flyer's offense has been downright dreadful but this duo is too good to disregard in this favorable matchup against the sievelike Flame's defense and goaltending. If I was a betting man, I say Philly scores at least 3-4... Matt Duchene is as streaky as they come so I will start him after his first breakout game of the season.

IN STEVE'S DEFENSE- MARKOV STILL ELITE

Posted by steve on Wed, 2015-11-04 13:16

Andrei Markov- It's time to remind ourselves that the best fantasy tandem in defense resides in Montreal as the 36-year old continues to put up numbers comparable with the more heralded PK Subban. Markov had seemingly put his knee issues aside and has formed a dynamic duo with Subban in the Hab's top power play unit.

Starting with the net out, good value is Montreal’s Mike Condon who is starting for the injured Carey Price.  All Condon has done so far in 4 games is go 4-0-0 with a 1.50 GAA and a .944 SP.  Playing at home tonight against the Ottawa Senators should be good enough to get you the win.  Montreal D-man Andrei Markov warrants a selection as he is a good value for his production.  Max Pacioretty, Tomas Plekanec and Brendan Gallagher have been the Habs best forward scoring options of late. …..Jake Allen gets the nod for St.

ADD'EM: JUST WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED

Posted by ray on Mon, 2015-11-02 21:44

Justin Williams, Washington- Mr Game 7 is actually having a  fantasy impact early on with his new team as he collected 8 points over the first 10 games. Whether his production is sustainable or not largely depends on whether Nicklas Backstrom remains as his pivot. If he moves back to Ovie's line or Williams is shuffled out of top six, then his fantasy value could plummet.

Typical cloudy, cool November day as the hockey season shifts into the second month.  Nice to be inside with a hot cup of joe while thousands of people are running all through the 5 boroughs of NYC.

It looks like Detroit’s Gustav Nyquist is coming to life after a somewhat disappointing second season.

It’s November and that means that Pavel Datsyuk is close to returning for the struggling Red Wings.

I looked and saw that the Dallas Stars are atop the Western Conference.  Getting Antti Niemi might be the most underrated off-season move.

Your pricey options should definitely include the surging Phil Kessel as he returns to his old digs in Toronto, looking to exact some revenge on the organization that gave up on him. Sid the Kid and Geno will make sure Phil gets the last laugh tonight... The Battle of Alberta is always hotly contested but I do like the Edmonton young guns to get the best of a the struggling Karri Ramo... Darnell Nurse is a solid cheap option tonight as the defender has fared well since his call-up..

Battle of the backups Thursday night with 8 games on the slate. A couple of early games see the Carolina Hurricanes starting Eddie Lack while the Isles will go with G Thomas Greiss with Jaroslav Halak out with an illnesss.

IN STEVES DEFENSE: FIVE PLUS THOUGHTS

Posted by steve on Wed, 2015-10-28 17:35

Colton Payrako, St. Louis- With much of the rookie talk centered on the super hyped forwards in Year 1, it's time to take notice of the towering defenseman in St. Louis who is off to a fabulous start with 6 points in 9 games. While logging over 23 minutes of TOI including power play, he has displayed a huge shot and also very liable in the defensive zone. His uptick in fantasy value is largely aided by Kevin Shattenkirk's absence due to injury but nevertheless, his sleeper potential makes him a top waiver wire target. SLEEPER ALERT

First of all, I decided between the less expensive tandem of Giroux/Voracek over Seguin/Benn mainly because of inferior opposition in goal. Anaheim could be stingy in the crease while Buffalo has given up 11 goals over the last two games. Coming off a confidence-building win over the Rangers, Giroux and company can be poised for a huge breakout on offense... Krejci has been tearing it up for the Bruins who are seeking their first win at home.

ADD'EM: STREAKING DEVILS

Posted by steve on Sun, 2015-10-25 19:39

Colin Wilson LW, Nashville- The 26-year old Predator showed plenty of promise last season, especially during a great December/January stretch where he picked up 23 points in 25 games. However, consistency has never been his strong suit and that hurts his long-term value in most fantasy formats. After starting with one helper in the first 5 games, he now has 5 over the last 7 contests. When streaking and logging top-six minutes, he makes for a strong fantasy play. Watch him closely as he could be pile up plenty of points over the next while.

Waking up to the wet sidewalks on a crisp autumn morning; need my coffee and ready for some hockey.

We just knew that the Blue Jackets had to fire Todd Richards.  A bit surprised with the John Tortorella signing though but they won finally last night.  Now all they have to do is win 7 more in a row and they will be at .500

It might be Bruce Boudreau’s turn next with the way the Ducks are playing.  Another anemic effort last night against Minnesota.
