SMC 1-10-2016

Welcome to the New Year!  May you be blessed with health and happiness in the coming year!

I believe Sidney Crosby has made the PrimePucks™  Who’s Hot list for the first time this season!

Don’t look now but the Philadelphia Flyers are beginning to wake up and get into playoff contention.

That Capitals-Rangers game on Saturday afternoon was an exciting one!  I hope they play against one another this playoff season again!

Ovechkin is a beast!

ADDEM: FLORIDA PANTHER AT LARGE?

Posted by steve on Mon, 2016-01-04 13:04
Aleksander Barkov
The 20-year old center is a star in the making and has flourished on a line with Jonathan Huberdeau and Jaromir Jagr. Having scored 23 points in 29 games, the skilled Swede should be in line for a 65-70 point year with more to come in the near future. The window is quickly closing to get this Panther, so act fast if he is still on the waiver wire.

Jacob Markstrom

ADDEM: HOLIDAY WISH LIST

Posted by steve on Mon, 2015-12-28 15:02

Hey folks, our normal ADDEM writeups will continue after the holidays, but here is a quick list of solid waiver-wire targets:

GOALIES- Matt Murray, James Reimer

DEFENSEMEN- Tyler Myers,

FORWARDS- Tyler Bozak, Leo Komarov, Marcus Johansson

ADDEM: SPOONER THRIVING

Posted by steve on Mon, 2015-12-21 14:39

Ryan Spooner, Boston

Third line center for the "B's" is not a plus but playing on arguably the best top PP unit in NHL definitely is. The kid has some serious upside which would be realized quicker when he moved up to top six. Take a flier on him as it could pay off in the form of 60+ points in '15-16.

A good hot cup of coffee to get the sleep out of one’s eyes and the chill out of the air!

Colonel Klinkhammer made a cameo then went to the infirmary.  I appreciate the effort mein commandant!

Jonathan Bernier making it a statement game against the LA Kings with a 5-0 shutout.  It will be interesting to see when James Reimer gets back in action.

Sabres played the Blackhawks tough going to a shootout before losing 3-2.  It seems like the Hawks should never lose with the way Patrick Kane is going this season.

BETWEEN THE PIPES: ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS...

BTP: ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS…

COREY CRAWFORD – some recognition as a top-flight goaltender.  I mean I’ve been involved in 4 consecutive shutouts lately, winning three of those, and have won 6 of 7.  And have won 2 Stanley Cups in the last 3 years.

SEMYON VARLAMOV – Some stability please.  II know I have the talent, I just need to stay healthy and gain some consistency in the crease.  I’ve won 5 in a row of late, but I’ve also had a stretch of losing 6 of 8 earlier in the season.

IN STEVES DEFENSE: FOUR WAVES

Posted by steve on Wed, 2015-12-16 16:35

First Wave(1-25)- Erik Karlsson, John Klingberg

ADDEM: TOP LINE GEMS?

Posted by steve on Mon, 2015-12-14 16:22

Brayden Schenn-

Claude Giroux has gone nuts and is slowly bringing his line-mates with him. Schenn is no Voracek in terms of upside but he can  produce like a 60-point guy when G is cruising. The winger has collected 7 points over his last 10 contests.

Rise and shine and grab your hot cup of coffee!

I see the NHL reversed the rule about compensation for signing another team’s ex-head coach starting January 1st, 2016.  Sucks for the Columbus Blue Jackets who lost a pick for signing John Tortorella.  Another reason why if I were the Jackets I wouldn’t have hired him.

UNDER THE RAYDAR: ALEXANDER WENNBERG-C-Columbus Blue Jackets

UNDER THE RAYDAR: ALEXANDER WENNBERG-C-Columbus Blue Jackets

One team that you are probably consciously staying away from because of their horrific start to this season is the Columbus Blue Jackets and justifiably so.  They seem to have their feet planted a little firmer on the ice now under Head Coach John Tortorella, but things don’t seem to be right in Columbus.

BETWEEN THE PIPES: SOMEWHERE, UNDER THE RAINBOW...

IN STEVES DEFENSE: RISING FLAMES

Posted by steve on Wed, 2015-12-09 12:43

Nick Leddy, New York- We expected a huge breakout season for Leddy this season coming after a 37-point effort in 2014-15. Unfortunately to the chagrin of many fantasy owners, all he had accounted for so far is 8 points in 29 games. Huge disappointment for sure, but his two assist game last night and a spot on the top powerplay unit over Marek Zidlicky suggests that he might be in serious buy-low mode.

ADDEM: NILSSON SHARP IN NET

Posted by steve on Mon, 2015-12-07 13:30

Anders Nilsson, Edmonton- The ex-Islanders prospect has been on a tear of late for the Oilers, starting five straight games while winning four of them. And he's not just getting by either, allowing just nine goals over those contests. Although it's reasonable to assume that Cam Talbot will have another chance to reclaim the starting  job, Nilsson is only 25 and is showing off some of that upside that he displayed in the KHL. Take a flier on him as he could be the real deal.

Good morning everyone!  Grab your coffee and settle in for a cozy Sunday!

Some good goaltending stories this week unless you are the owners of the goalies that were replaced by these marvels.  Winnipeg Jets Connor Hellebuyck and Toronto Maple Leafs Garret Sparks have turned a lot of heads in their short NHL careers with the former going 3-0-0 and the latter 2-1-0 in their first three NHL starts.  So impressive that Sparks had a shutout in his NHL debut.
