Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, BETWEEN THE PIPES will return next week.  Hope you enjoyed your holiday?

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: NOVEMBER 29, 2015

SMC 11-29-2015

Good morning everyone!  Lots to be thankful for as we head into December and the most wonderful time of the year! No, my coffee isn’t spiked this morning!

Rumors of Ryan Johansen are probably just that.  When you have someone as talented as RJ, you don’t go trading him away unless you have someone ready to step in and assume the role as #1 Center.

Could this be the sign that we have all been waiting for from Alex Galchenyuk?  5 goals and an assists in the past week.  Bravo!

IN STEVES DEFENSE: COMING THIS WEDNESDAY

Hey folks, due to Thanksgiving travel, this week's ISD will be available the following Wednesday. For all our friends in the U.S., enjoy your Turkey Day!

ADDEM: ANISIMOV CLICKING WITH KANE

Posted by steve on Mon, 2015-11-23 12:58

Artem Anisimov, Chicago- Patrick Kane is riding a massive 16-game streak and the 27-year old center has reaped the rewards of late. Anisimov is currently on his own 5-game point streak and is sitting on 15 points in 21 games. Not enough power play time to justify a huge breakout, but playing with Kane could easily lead to surpassing his previous career high of 44 points. 55 plus anyone?

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: NOVEMBER 22, 2015

Good morning everyone!  The cold, crisp air of autumn has finally arrived making a hot cup of coffee taste even better.

Lots of non-scoring on Saturday night with 5 shutouts in 11 games.

Rangers’ Rick Nash with a hat trick!  You just knew he was due to break out sooner or later.

Flyers are playing for the top pick in the June 2016 NHL Entry Draft it seems.

I can see Big Z being traded from the Boston Bruins by the trade deadline.  Loui Eriksson before that.

BETWEEN THE PIPES: NO WORRIES, I'VE GOT YOUR BACK!

BTP: NO WORRIES, I’VE GOT YOUR BACK!

Last Year’s New York Rangers showed how valuable a backup can be in your quest to make the playoffs as Cam Talbot stepped in for the injured Henrik Lundqvist and was nothing short of spectacular as the Rangers surged on their way to winning the President’s trophy.

UNDER THE RAYDAR: BO HORVAT-C, JARED McCANN-C, JAKE VIRTANEN-RW-Vancouver Canucks

UNDER THE RAYDAR: BO HORVAT-C, JARED McCANN-C, JAKE VIRTANEN-RW-Vancouver Canucks

Usually when it comes to an UTR article, we focus on just one particular player at a time.  However, there seems to be a developing situation in Vancouver where the future is starting.  The Canucks knew that they had to prepare for the eventual demise and retirement of the Sedin twins.  The twins still possess the kind of talent that they will still be productive, but it’s only a matter of time before Vancouver will need to rely on the next generation of rising stars.

IN STEVE'S DEFENSE- KLINGBERG STREAKING UP

Posted by steve on Wed, 2015-11-18 13:40

John Klingberg, Dallas- Wow, the 23-year old is following up his superb 40-point rookie seasons with huge numbers- 20 pts in 18 games. When you are out-scoring the likes of Karlsson and Subban, you know that the potential "elite" tag will come up. I would say given that 10 of his 20 points came on the power play and how explosive the Dallas offense is, there is little reason to believe he can't keep up a top-five pace. Klingberg looks like a special talent so maybe fantasy owners should treat him as such. ROAD TO ELITE

DAILY ROTO LINEUP - 11/16/15

Posted by ray on Mon, 2015-11-16 14:51

Looking for offense?  Lean towards the Anaheim and Montreal forwards as they have good opportunities against weaker opponents.  The Ducks are at Carolina while the Canadiens host the Vancouver Canucks.  Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf have been producing more after a slow start to the season.  The Habs have some good quality forwards in Max Pacioretty & Brendan Gallagher along with Alex Galchenyuk, David Desharnais.  Dale Weise gives you good value at RW.  My goalie of choice for tonight is Anton Khudobin as he is going up against his former team in the Hurricanes.  Lots of incentive there

ADDEM: BERRA PUSHING VARLY

Posted by steve on Mon, 2015-11-16 12:46

Reto Berra, Colorado- It's quite simple here as the incumbent starter Semyon Varlamov is hurt again but has been mediocre at best- 3.26 GAA/.890 SP, while Berra is on fire- 1.58 GAA/.948 SP. Start him while he is amidst his hot streak but at the very least, he is a proven mandatory handcuff for Varlamov owners. Berra has fantasy value now but he will slow down.

Sorry for the delay today but life got in the way, but have no fear, I just finished my afternoon coffee and am ready to let fly.

Patrick Kane doesn’t seem to be bothered by anything as he leads the NHL in scoring.

Red Wing Justin Abdelkader signed a reasonable 7-year extension proving that some NHL players are in it for more than just the money.  Don’t get me wrong, the money is still good but he wants to be on a perennial contender with a chance at the Cup every year.  Smart.

DAILY ROTO LINEUP - 11/14/2015

If you had a chance to read today’s BTP, you would know that Edmonton stands a better chance with Anders Nilsson in the net rather than Cam Talbot because Nilsson puts up better numbers overall.  LA is finishing off a 5-game home stand and will probably want to hit the road on a winning note after splitting the first 4 games.  Edmonton is playing the last game of a 4-game trip that and want to get to .500 for the trip.  Go with Quick if he starts and forwards in this one to take a look at are Tyler Toffoli.

BTP: HOW'M I DOIN? – SETTLING IN

A few teams have made major goaltending changes during the pre-season in hopes of solidifying their #1 in net.  PrimePucks™ will take a look to see how things are working out so far for the teams and their new goaltenders.  As former New York City Mayor Ed Koch used to frequently say, "How'm I doin?"

*(All stats through Thursday, November 12th’s games.)

The way I look at it, getting the Sedin twins into your lineup along with Jannik Hanson after their explosion in Columbus might depend on their opponent. Well, I like my chances against Craig Anderson and an Ottawa squad giving up tons of goals and really struggling at home... I mean, Steven Stamkos and company need to break out. Right? Here's hoping that Karri Ramo and the slumping Flames help the superstar get back on track..

IN STEVES DEFENSE: FIVE PLUS THOUGHTS

Posted by steve on Wed, 2015-11-11 14:39

Duncan Keith, Chicago- fantasy owners must be overjoyed to hear that the All-Star could be available to play over the weekend as he looks almost fully recovered from his meniscus tear in his knee. There is no sugarcoating how detrimental his absence has had in most fantasy leagues as he is tough to replace. I say get him back as soon as he gets into game action.
