SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: HUNT FOR RED LIGHT OCTOBER

Posted by ray on Sun, 2017-10-22 10:35

SMC 10/22/2017

Interesting week with some injuries to key fantasy players, some not so major and then some kinda returning soon.

Tuukka Rask goes down, as does Roberto Luongo. And then there was M-A Fleury in Vegas.  A minor scare for John Gibson, who always seems to get injured. That’s why you need to draft their backups in fantasy.  Golden rule.

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: HOCKEY IS BACK!

Posted by ray on Sun, 2017-10-15 11:06

OCTOBER 15, 2017

Hockey is back!  And so is Sunday Morning Coffee!

With just over a week into the season and already things seems to be turned upside-down more than usual. Vegas as more wins (3) than Montreal and the NY Rangers combined (2).

Los Angeles is one of only 2 undefeated team at 3-0-1.  There is a Dustin Brown renaissance it seems.

You just knew that Kings G Jonathan Quick was going to rebound this year.

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: THE FINAL COUNTDOWN! MARCH 12, 2017

Posted by ray on Sun, 2017-03-12 10:56

SMC 3/12/2017 THE FINAL COUNTDOWN!

As spring approaches the days aren't getting any warmer….no worries, I got my hot cup of coffee at the ready!

With spring also comes the end of the NHL regular season.  This will be my last SMC for this year. AS always it was a pleasure so I hope you enjoyed it as well.  I’ll be back at the start of the 2017-2018 season and hope that you will be back too.

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: SEASON DWINDLING DOWN MARCH 5, 2017

Posted by ray on Sun, 2017-03-05 10:12

SMC 3/5/2017 SEASON DWINDLING DOWN

Got my cup of coffee and ready to write on this extremely cold day in NYC!

The trade deadline came and went and in my honest opinion, it wasn’t as exciting as some past ones.

Okay, the Shattenkirk one was a doozy, but only for the Washington Capitals, who just got even stronger.

Mark Streit doing the East Coast shuffle from Philly to Tampa to Pittsburgh.

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: QUICK RETURNS AT TAX TIME! FEBRUARY 26, 2017

Posted by ray on Sun, 2017-02-26 11:04

SMC 2/26/20017 QUICK RETURNS AT TAX TIME!

Goooooooooood morning Hockeynam!  Got my coffee and ready to go!  My apologies for not writing last week as I was away with the family on a ski weekend. Back now with about 6 weeks remaining the regular season.

Jonathan Quick is back and that means the LA Kings should be rolling on all cylinders to gain a playoff spot, barring any key injuries of course.

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: CATS REVIVAL! FEBRUARY 12, 2017

Posted by ray on Sun, 2017-02-12 10:11

SMC 2/12/2017 CATS REVIVAL!

Recovering from the storm the other day, it’s nice to sit with a hot mug of coffee and peruse the hockey sites!

Patrice Bergeron has turned around his season very nicely and has 9 points in last 5 games.  You just knew he would.

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: COFFEE TALK! FEBRUARY 5, 2017

Posted by ray on Sun, 2017-02-05 09:54

SMC 2/5/2017 COFFEE TALK

Good morning!  Warming up my hands to a piping hot cup o’ joe!

The Caps are rolling right along and there is no stopping this locomotive.

Nicklas Backstrom doesn’t always get the credit he deserves.  It feels like he’s been around forever and he’s only 29.

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: OLDIES BUT GOODIES! JANUARY 22, 2017

Posted by ray on Sun, 2017-01-22 11:51

SMC 1/22/2017 OLDIES BUT GOODIES!

Good day my fellow hockey addicts!  Got my fresh brewed cup of coffee and ready to tackle the day. Oh wait, that’s a football term.  I’m ready to rush up the ice!

The early afternoon tilt for Saturday was a Jet-Blue affair.  St. Louis was the one feeling blue after with a 5-3 loss.  Trouble in St. Lou?  Perhaps they are missing David Backes a little more than originally thought.

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: HEATING UP! JANUARY 15, 2017

Posted by ray on Sun, 2017-01-15 10:15

SMC 1/15/2017 HEATING UP!

Lazing on a cold Sunday morning in January with my hot cup of coffee and lots of hockey to talk about!

Hottest teams right now in the coldest part of the season; Washington, Minnesota and Toronto.  Didn’t think TO would be this competitive this quickly. The Matthews Effect!

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: HAPPY 2017! NEW BEGINNINGS.. JANUARY 8, 2017

Posted by ray on Sun, 2017-01-08 10:52

SMC 1/8/2017 NEW BEGINNINGS!

Good morning and welcome to the New Year!  Got my mug of hot coffee and ready to start 2017 with renewed energy!

Looks like New York’s Michael Grabner also has found renewed energy with 4 goals and 3 assists in past 6 games.  As streaky as they come as he streaks down the ice in a flash.

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: TIS THE SEASON!....DECEMBER 18, 2016

Posted by ray on Sun, 2016-12-18 10:05

SMC 12/18/2016 TIS THE SEASON!

Ta-ta-ta-ta-ta, ta-ta-ta-tar!  This season it seemed more like “tata” than “Tatar” but his hat trick on Saturday just might be the awakening.  You might recall a few weeks ago I mentioned to start targeting players who were having subpar seasons or slow starts and that the beginning of the New Year just might be a reversal of sorts?  This is that point in time to consider those players.

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: THE SHORE-SCHENN REDEMPTION...DEC 11, 2016

Posted by ray on Sun, 2016-12-11 09:18

SMC 12/11/2016

The Christmas Holiday season is fast approaching.  Time to get your wish list ready.  I am going to sprinkle some of my wishes in throughout today’s SMC as I tackle my mug of hot coffee.

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: RELEVANT!....DECEMBER 4, 2016

Posted by ray on Sun, 2016-12-04 10:07

SMC 12/4/2016   RELEVANT

I hope everyone had a good week… A full week of work is always tough to get back into the swing of things.

If he knows it or not, Chris Kreider is going to be a huge part of the Rangers offense and how they perform this year.

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: HAPPY THANKSGIVING WEEKEND!....NOVEMBER 27, 2016

Posted by ray on Sun, 2016-11-27 10:40

The Devils had that game against the Pens but Sidney Crosby was being Sid and scored the tying goal with seconds left in the game.  Then the Pens won in a shootout.

The Capitals are just going through the motions this season, saving it for the playoffs.  How else do you explain them losing to the Toronto Maple Leafs?  Nothing personal Leaf fans, I’m just saying.

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: I THINK, THEREFORE... NOVEMBER 20, 2016

Posted by ray on Sun, 2016-11-20 14:12

SMC 11/20/2016 I THINK, THEREFORE...

I think it’s safe to say that Tampa’s Andrej Vasilevskiy’s play of late warrants more starts.  He’s only allowed 1 goal in the past three games.

It’s also safe to say that the Columbus Blue Jackets are indeed for real this year after playing the New York Rangers tight and coming away with a well-deserved 4-2 victory the other night.

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: IT'S JACKET SEASON NOVEMBER 13, 2016

Posted by ray on Sun, 2016-11-13 09:50

SMC 11/13/16 IT’S JACKET SEASON!

It’s the resurrection of Nick Foligno and the Columbus Blue Jackets as they scored 8 or more goals for the second time this month, beating the St. Louis Blues 8-4 with 7 unanswered goals.  7 different goal-scorers for the Jackets.

Price blanked the Red Wings.  No surprise now, is there?

Whenever I look at a Montreal box score I see Paul Byron’s name pop up.  I can’t help but think his name is Paul Bunyon by the way he’s been playing this season.  BIG.

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: SOME CHANGE IS GOOD! NOVEMBER 6, 2016

Posted by ray on Sun, 2016-11-06 09:36

SMC 11-6-2016  SOME CHANGE IS GOOD!

This could be the time to pick up Carl Hagelin of the Pittsburgh Penguins as he had 3 assists last night 2 of those on Crosby goals.  He may not get much PP time, if any, but he can skate and with Sid the Kid feeding him, can anyone spell B-R-E-A-K-O-U-T?

Al Montoya smacked up for 10 goals the other night.  YEEESH!

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: THE NEW ERA HAS BEGUN! OCTOBER 30, 2016

Posted by ray on Sun, 2016-10-30 13:05

SMC 10-30-2016 THE NEW ERA HAS BEGUN!

4 shutouts yesterday in the NHL with Devan Dubnyk getting his third one in a row. Wild, isn’t it?

If you were to tell me that the Edmonton Oilers would be this good, this early in the season, I would’ve said you were crazy.  I mean first place and 7-1-0?

I mean Cam Talbot is already surpassing any and all expectations that fantasy poolers had in him.

But low on any Dallas Stars players as they are hit with the injury bug but you know they will score in bunches when everyone is back in the lineup.

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: SURPRISE! SURPRISE! OCTOBER 23, 2016

Posted by ray on Sun, 2016-10-23 10:20

SMC 10-23-2016

I think that we should just award the Hart Trophy to Carey Price right now.  You can see how much he means to this team.

After just two weeks, the NHL Standings are rounding into shape just the way pretty much everyone thought they would look like except that Edmonton is off to a 4-1-0 start.

Oh and Vancouver at 4-0-1 is another one that has me scratching my head.  Aren’t they supposed to be just a so-so team this season?

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: THE WOW FACTOR! OCTOBER 16, 2016

Posted by ray on Sun, 2016-10-16 11:07

SMC 10/16/2016

WOW!  That’s all I think I need to say about Auston Matthews.

WOW! 2: McDavid with 6 points in 2 games

Is this the year the Oil start to show that they are NHL –worthy?

WOW! 3: Brad Marchand with a 5-point night.

I know we are just 4 days into the season but there have been some odd phenomena happening around the league.

Richard Panik with a hat trick?  Huh!  Panik at the disco...He just may be a decent sleeper pick for another week if he continues.
